Frequently asked questions
Your first class is free, to see if you like it and are interested in continuing. After that, it's $20 weekly for individuals or $60 if you pay a month at a time. For Families, we charge slightly more, $30 per week or $100 if you pay for a whole month at a time. Workshops are extra, as are special training sessions or private lessons.
No. Unfortunately, just like most sports, your gear, your weapons, your tournament fees? Those are all extra. That being said, we buy wholesale to pass the discount on to our members, so don't buy your uniform or protective gear, weapons, etc. without asking one of the Instructors first. We can probably get you what you need cheaper than you can find it online!
Clip your nails so you don't scratch your teammates. Eyes, for example, really don't like long or dirty fingernails. Take off and safely store your jewelry, body piercings, etc. If you can't take it out for class, ask a sensei and we'll get you some athletic tape to cover it, so it isn't accidentally ripped out. We have some locker space available, but a gear bag you can stow to the side of the mats works, too. Makeup isn't recommended, because you're going to sweat, rub, or otherwise end up with it not where it's supposed to be, and that's going to really irritate your eyes or your sparring partner when they have to try and get it out of their uniforms!
We try to stick to ages 5 and up, here's why: We look for things like the ability to follow directions, the ability to listen to instructors, and the ability to work for an hour at a focused task. Basically, we look for similar things as when deciding if a child is ready to start kindergarten. Have we ever allowed someone to start younger? Sure! And you know your child best. But we're going to let you know if we see them struggling--we'd rather they wait a year or two instead of having a bad experience or being disruptive to our other students.
